Quick answer: The Australian Mounjaro Product Information starts at 2.5 mg once weekly for 4 weeks, then 5 mg, and allows increases of 2.5 mg after a minimum of 4 weeks on each dose, through 7.5, 10 and 12.5 mg, to a maximum of 15 mg. At that minimum pace 5 mg begins at week 5 and 15 mg at week 21. A missed dose is taken as soon as possible, or skipped if fewer than 3 days remain before the next one, and the injection day can move as long as 72 hours separate two doses. In Australia Mounjaro is supplied as the four-dose KwikPen.

Educational summary of the Australian Product Information, not medical advice. The Product Information sets the minimum time at each step; your prescriber sets your actual schedule, which can be slower at any point. Never change a dose or step up on your own.

What does the Mounjaro Australian Product Information say about missed doses and changing your injection day?

If a Mounjaro dose is missed, the Product Information says to take it as soon as possible. If there are fewer than 3 days until the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the next dose on the regular day.

The day of the weekly injection can be changed if necessary, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) separate two doses.

Strengths. The Mounjaro KwikPen, a multi-dose pen giving four weekly doses of one strength: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, or 15 mg. Once in use it can be kept out of the fridge, below 30°C, for up to 30 days.

How is Mounjaro prescribed for weight loss in Australia?

In Australia, Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine registered for weight management. At the time of writing it is not subsidised through the PBS for that use. It is supplied as the KwikPen, which holds four weekly doses of one strength: one step at the minimum pace.

Your GP or prescribing clinic sets the pace. The dates on this page are the earliest the Product Information allows each step, not a plan to follow on your own.

How does the four-dose KwikPen fit the schedule?

Each Mounjaro KwikPen contains four doses of one strength, dialled and injected once a week, so a pen lasts the four weeks the Product Information requires at each step. Moving up means the next strength of pen; staying longer at a dose means another pen of the same strength. There is no measuring or unit conversion: the pen delivers its fixed dose.

The pen can be kept out of the fridge (below30°C) for up to 30 days after first use, per the Product Information, which is also roughly how long a four-dose pen lasts at one dose a week.

What are the Mounjaro maintenance doses?

The Product Information names 5 mg, 10 mg and 15 mg as maintenance doses, with 7.5 mg and 12.5 mg as the steps between them. 15 mg is the maximum, not a target: your doctor or prescriber decides which dose you stay on, and staying longer at any step is allowed.

FAQ

How long do you stay on 2.5 mg of Mounjaro?

Four weeks, per the Product Information. 2.5 mg is the starting dose, and the maintenance doses are 5, 10 and 15 mg; after four weeks the schedule moves to 5 mg, and your prescriber can keep you on 2.5 mg longer if needed.

What is the highest dose of Mounjaro?

15 mg once weekly, reachable at week 21 at the Product Information's minimum pace: 2.5 mg for four weeks, then 5, 7.5, 10 and 12.5 mg for at least four weeks each. Your prescriber can keep you at any step for longer, and 5 and 10 mg are maintenance doses in their own right.

What if you miss a Mounjaro dose?

Take it as soon as possible. If there are fewer than 3 days until your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the next dose on your regular day. In practice that is up to 4 days after the missed dose.

Can you get Mounjaro for weight loss on the PBS?

At the time of writing, no. Mounjaro is registered for weight management in Australia but is not PBS-subsidised for that use. The dose schedule in the Product Information is the same however it is prescribed.

Is Mounjaro the same as Zepbound?

They are the same molecule, tirzepatide, made by the same company. Zepbound is the name used in the United States for weight management; it is not marketed in the UK or Australia, where the weight-management licence belongs to Mounjaro. The dose schedule is identical.

Are the dates in the planner a recommendation to step up?

No. They are the minimum spacing the Product Information requires between steps, laid on a calendar from your first injection date. The Product Information sets a floor, not a schedule: your prescriber decides whether and when you move up, and staying longer at any dose is allowed.

Is this dosage chart free, and do I need to sign up?

Yes, it is free, and no sign-up or email is required. Pick the medication, enter your first injection date, and the schedule updates instantly; there is a print button for the fridge or the clinic. The GlucoPal iOS app it comes from is also free to download.

This free dosage chart is built and maintained by GlucoPal, the free iPhone app for tracking GLP-1 weight loss medications.
