Dates are the minimum spacing in the Product Information, laid on a calendar, not a recommendation to step up. Your prescriber sets the pace, and a step can be delayed or held at any dose, for example while side effects settle.
Quick answer: The Australian Wegovy Product Information runs 0.25 mg once weekly for 4 weeks, then 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 1.7 mg for 4 weeks each, reaching the 2.4 mg maintenance dose at week 17. If stomach or bowel symptoms are significant, it says to consider delaying the next step, and if 2.4 mg is not tolerated the dose can drop to 1.7 mg for maintenance. A missed dose can be taken within 5 days, and the injection day can move as long as more than 72 hours separate two doses. Wegovy is registered as a single-dose pen, a four-dose FlexTouch pen and a pre-filled syringe, and a 7.2 mg maintenance dose is registered for some adults.
Educational summary of the Australian Product Information, not medical advice. The Product Information sets the minimum time at each step; your prescriber sets your actual schedule, which can be slower at any point. Never change a dose or step up on your own.
What is the Wegovy dosage chart?
Wegovy (semaglutide) starts at 0.25 mg once weekly and moves up in steps, each held for at least 4 weeks. At the minimum pace the Product Information allows, the standard maintenance dose of 2.4 mg is reachable at week 17.

What does the Wegovy Australian Product Information say about missed doses and changing your injection day?
If a Wegovy dose is missed, the Product Information says to take it as soon as possible within 5 days of the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on the regular day.
The day of the weekly injection can be changed if necessary, as long as at least 3 days (more than 72 hours) separate two doses.
If you have significant stomach or bowel symptoms, the Product Information says to consider delaying the next step until they improve. If 2.4 mg is not tolerated, the dose can be reduced to 1.7 mg weekly for maintenance, then re-escalated to 2.4 mg if tolerated.
Strengths. Wegovy is registered in five strengths (0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg) as a single-dose pen, the four-dose FlexTouch pen and a pre-filled syringe; your pharmacist can tell you which device you have. A 7.2 mg maintenance dose, given as three 2.4 mg injections, is registered for adults with a starting BMI of 30 or more after at least 4 weeks on 2.4 mg.
How is Wegovy prescribed for weight loss in Australia?
In Australia, Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine registered for weight management. At the time of writing it is not PBS-subsidised for that use. It is registered as a single-dose pen, the four-dose FlexTouch pen and a pre-filled syringe; your pharmacist can tell you which device you have. Your doctor sets the pace, and the dates on this page are the earliest the Product Information allows each step.
How does the Australian Wegovy schedule differ from the US one?
The four-week steps and the 2.4 mg maintenance dose are the same everywhere. The rules around them are worded differently. The Australian Product Information counts the missed-dose window forward from the missed dose (take it within 5 days), where the US label counts back from the next dose (skip it if that is less than 48 hours away); for a weekly dose both come to about 5 days. The Product Information asks for at least 3 days (more than 72 hours) between doses when the injection day moves, where the US label asks for 2. Its side-effect advice is closer to the US label: consider delaying the next step, and drop to 1.7 mg for maintenance if 2.4 mg is not tolerated. Australia also registers three presentations (a single-dose pen, the four-dose FlexTouch pen, and a pre-filled syringe) and a 7.2 mg maintenance dose, given as three 2.4 mg injections, for adults who started with a BMI of 30 or more and have spent at least 4 weeks on 2.4 mg.
If you read a US source, or an AI answer trained on one, check the rules against this page and your own patient leaflet before acting on them.
What is Wegovy 7.2 mg and how does it fit the Australian schedule?
Wegovy 7.2 mg is a higher maintenance dose, three times the standard 2.4 mg, for adults with obesity. It sits on top of the chart above rather than replacing it: the Product Information allows the step up to 7.2 mg once weekly only after a minimum of 4 weeks on 2.4 mg, and only for adults with a BMI of 30 or more when they started.
In Australia the 7.2 mg dose is registered within the same Product Information as the 2.4 mg pathway (revised 22 June 2026) and is given as three 2.4 mg injections one after another, at least 5 cm apart. It is not a separate product or pen. The 5-day missed-dose window and the 3-day gap when moving your injection day carry over unchanged, and the Product Information says to consider delaying escalation if stomach or bowel symptoms are significant. If body weight does not improve further on 7.2 mg, the Product Information says to go back to 2.4 mg.
FAQ
How long do you stay on 0.25 mg of Wegovy?
Four weeks, per the Product Information. 0.25 mg is the starting dose and is not a maintenance dose; the schedule then moves to 0.5 mg for four weeks, and so on to 2.4 mg.
What week do you reach 2.4 mg of Wegovy?
Week 17 at the Product Information's minimum pace: four weeks each at 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 1.7 mg. Delaying a step for side effects adds to that.
What if you miss a Wegovy dose in Australia?
Take it as soon as possible within 5 days of the missed dose, per the Australian Product Information. If more than 5 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on your regular day. The US label words the same rule from the other end, by skipping the dose if the next one is less than 48 hours away.
Can you get Wegovy for weight loss on the PBS?
At the time of writing, no. Wegovy is registered for weight management in Australia but is not PBS-subsidised for that use. The dose schedule in the Product Information is the same however it is prescribed.
Is Wegovy 7.2 mg available in Australia, and where does it fit in the schedule?
The Australian Product Information (revised 22 June 2026) includes a 7.2 mg once-weekly maintenance dose, given as three 2.4 mg injections one after another, for adults whose BMI was 30 or more at the start of treatment, after a minimum of 4 weeks on 2.4 mg. If body weight does not improve further on 7.2 mg, the dose goes back to 2.4 mg. Your doctor decides whether it applies to you.
Are the dates in the planner a recommendation to step up?
No. They are the minimum spacing the Product Information requires between steps, laid on a calendar from your first injection date. The Product Information sets a floor, not a schedule: your prescriber decides whether and when you move up, and staying longer at any dose is allowed.
Is this dosage chart free, and do I need to sign up?
Yes, it is free, and no sign-up or email is required. Pick the medication, enter your first injection date, and the schedule updates instantly; there is a print button for the fridge or the clinic. The GlucoPal iOS app it comes from is also free to download.
