Quick answer: The UK Wegovy Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) runs 0.25 mg once weekly for 4 weeks, then 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 1.7 mg for 4 weeks each, reaching the 2.4 mg maintenance dose at week 17. If stomach or bowel symptoms are significant, it says to consider delaying the next step or dropping back to the previous dose until they settle. A missed dose can be taken within 5 days, and the injection day can move as long as more than 72 hours separate two doses. Each pen holds four doses of one strength, so one pen is one step.

Educational summary of the UK SmPC, not medical advice. The SmPC sets the minimum time at each step; your prescriber sets your actual schedule, which can be slower at any point. Never change a dose or step up on your own.

What is the Wegovy dosage chart?

Wegovy (semaglutide) starts at 0.25 mg once weekly and moves up in steps, each held for at least 4 weeks. At the minimum pace the SmPC allows, the standard maintenance dose of 2.4 mg is reachable at week 17.

What does the Wegovy UK SmPC say about missed doses and changing your injection day?

If a Wegovy dose is missed, the SmPC says to take it as soon as possible within 5 days of the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on the regular day.

The day of the weekly injection can be changed if necessary, as long as at least 3 days (more than 72 hours) separate two doses.

If you have significant stomach or bowel symptoms, the SmPC says to consider delaying the next step, or dropping back to the previous dose until the symptoms improve.

Strengths. Wegovy FlexTouch, a multi-dose pre-filled pen holding four weekly doses of one strength: 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, or 2.4 mg, usable for up to 6 weeks once in use. A 7.2 mg single-dose pen is licensed separately, with its own SmPC.

How is Wegovy prescribed for weight loss in the UK?

In the UK, Wegovy is licensed by the MHRA for weight management and is available on the NHS through specialist weight management services for up to 2 years under NICE guidance, and privately from registered pharmacies and clinics. The four-week steps are the same either way, and the FlexTouch pen holds four doses, so each pen is one step at the minimum pace. Once in use, a FlexTouch pen lasts up to 6 weeks.

How does the UK Wegovy schedule differ from the US one?

The four-week steps and the 2.4 mg maintenance dose are the same everywhere. The rules around them are worded differently. The UK Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) counts the missed-dose window forward from the missed dose (take it within 5 days), where the US label counts back from the next dose (skip it if that is less than 48 hours away); for a weekly dose both come to about 5 days. The Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) asks for at least 3 days (more than 72 hours) between doses when the injection day moves, where the US label asks for 2; and its advice for a dose that is not tolerated is to delay the next step or return to the previous dose until symptoms improve, rather than the US label's fixed four-week delay and 1.7 mg maintenance fallback, which the UK SmPC does not include. The UK pen is also a four-dose multi-dose pen, not the US single-dose pen.

If you read a US source, or an AI answer trained on one, check the rules against this page and your own patient leaflet before acting on them.

What is Wegovy 7.2 mg and how does it fit the UK schedule?

Wegovy 7.2 mg is a higher maintenance dose, three times the standard 2.4 mg, for adults with obesity. It sits on top of the chart above rather than replacing it: the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) allows the step up to 7.2 mg once weekly only after a minimum of 4 weeks on 2.4 mg, and only for adults with a BMI of 30 or more.

In the UK the 7.2 mg dose has been licensed since April 2026 with its own SmPC and its own single-dose pre-filled pen holding 7.2 mg in 0.75 mL, so it is one injection a week. Unlike the four-dose FlexTouch, each 7.2 mg pen is used once, and a pack holds four pens. The missed-dose window (5 days), the 3-day gap when moving your injection day, and the advice to delay a step or drop back if side effects are significant all carry over unchanged from the 2.4 mg pathway.

The Wegovy tablets, approved in the UK in June 2026, are different again: taken daily and escalated on their own schedule, separate from this chart.

FAQ

How long do you stay on 0.25 mg of Wegovy?

Four weeks, per the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC). 0.25 mg is the starting dose and is not a maintenance dose; the schedule then moves to 0.5 mg for four weeks, and so on to 2.4 mg.

What week do you reach 2.4 mg of Wegovy?

Week 17 at the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC)'s minimum pace: four weeks each at 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 1.7 mg. Delaying a step for side effects adds to that.

What if you miss a Wegovy dose in the UK?

Take it as soon as possible within 5 days of the missed dose, per the UK Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC). If more than 5 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on your regular day. The US label words the same rule from the other end, by skipping the dose if the next one is less than 48 hours away.

Can you get Wegovy for weight loss on the NHS?

Yes, through NHS specialist weight management services for people who meet the NICE criteria, for up to 2 years, and privately from registered pharmacies and clinics. The dose schedule is identical either way.

Is Wegovy 7.2 mg available in the UK, and where does it fit in the schedule?

Yes. Since April 2026 Wegovy 7.2 mg has been licensed in the UK with its own SmPC and a single-dose pen holding 7.2 mg in 0.75 mL. It can be prescribed to adults with obesity (a BMI of 30 or more) after a minimum of 4 weeks on 2.4 mg. The missed-dose, day-change and side-effect rules are the same as for 2.4 mg.

Are the dates in the planner a recommendation to step up?

No. They are the minimum spacing the SmPC requires between steps, laid on a calendar from your first injection date. The SmPC sets a floor, not a schedule: your prescriber decides whether and when you move up, and staying longer at any dose is allowed.

Is this dosage chart free, and do I need to sign up?

Yes, it is free, and no sign-up or email is required. Pick the medication, enter your first injection date, and the schedule updates instantly; there is a print button for the fridge or the clinic. The GlucoPal iOS app it comes from is also free to download.

This free dosage chart is built and maintained by GlucoPal, the free iPhone app for tracking GLP-1 weight loss medications. Dose steps, missed-dose rules, and pen presentations were read from the current Summaries of Product Characteristics on the emc on 2 October 2026.
