Quick answer: Choose the Wegovy 25 mg tablet if you want the larger published average, 13.6% of body weight over 64 weeks in OASIS-4, and can live with its routine: every morning on an empty stomach, with no more than 4 oz of water, then a 30-minute wait before food, drink, or other medications. Choose Foundayo if the routine is the point: it is taken once daily with or without food, no timing rules, and averaged 11.1% on the top 17.2 mg dose over 72 weeks in ATTAIN-1. From 220 lb those averages work out to roughly 30 lb and 24 lb. The calculator above opens on Foundayo; pick Wegovy and the 25 mg pill dose to see the tablet.
Those two averages come from separate trials of different lengths, so they are published results side by side rather than a head-to-head ranking. No trial has directly compared the two pills.
Educational reference only, not medical advice and not a prediction of individual results. Trial participants used the medication alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity. Talk to your prescriber about what to expect for you.
The two approved GLP-1 pills
Wegovy 25 mg tablet (oral semaglutide). Approved 22 December 2025, the first oral GLP-1 for weight management. The same molecule as the Wegovy injection, formulated with an absorption enhancer so it survives the stomach, which is also why it comes with strict dosing rules. Studied in OASIS-4.
Foundayo (orforglipron). Approved 1 April 2026. A small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist rather than a peptide, which is why it needs no food or water restrictions. Three maintenance doses: 5.5, 9, and 17.2 mg. Studied in ATTAIN-1.
Rybelsus is not on this list, and that surprises people. It is oral semaglutide too, but at 7 mg and 14 mg doses approved for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss. There is no pivotal weight-loss trial at those doses, so there is no weight-loss curve to model for it.
Foundayo vs the Wegovy pill, month by month
ATTAIN-1 ran 72 weeks with an average baseline of about 228 lb; OASIS-4 ran 64 weeks averaging about 235 lb. Similar populations, adults with obesity or overweight with a weight-related condition and without diabetes, but not the same trial, so read the table as two published results in one place.

Intermediate months are estimated from the published curve shapes; the trials publish week-by-week values only as figures. The trial-end row is the published result. ATTAIN-1 and OASIS-4 are separate trials of different lengths against different control groups, so the columns are published averages side by side, not a head-to-head comparison.
The responder spread favors the tablet too: 27.9% of OASIS-4 participants lost at least 20% on the Wegovy pill, against 18.4% on Foundayo 17.2 mg in ATTAIN-1, and 76.3% versus 71.5% cleared 5%. One honesty note that cuts the other way: ATTAIN-1 publishes no intermediate timepoints at all, so Foundayo's monthly values above are the most loosely anchored on this site, and OASIS-4 was a small trial of 307 people against SURMOUNT-scale studies of thousands.
The dosing rules are the real difference
On paper the two pills are separated by about 2.5 percentage points. In practice the bigger separation may be the routine, because a pill only works at the rate you actually take it, 365 times a year.
The Wegovy tablet's label is strict: take it in the morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 oz of water, nothing else, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medications. If your mornings are chaotic, that rule is a real constraint, and it is the same constraint Rybelsus users already know.
Foundayo's label is one line: once daily, with or without food. No water limit, no wait. The trade-off shows up in the climb instead: Foundayo steps through 0.8, 2.5, and 5.5 mg at 30-day intervals, so the earliest anyone reaches the top 17.2 mg dose is around week 21. The Wegovy tablet escalates through 1.5, 4, and 9 mg and reaches its full 25 mg dose around week 13.
A daily pill also changes what is worth tracking: adherence over a run of days, not a weekly dose day. GlucoPal is a free iPhone app that tracks daily GLP-1 pills alongside weight, meals, and side effects, with a doctor-ready export.
Are the pills as effective as the injections?
On published averages, not quite. The pills sit at 11.1% to 13.6%, while the injections run from 14.9% on Wegovy 2.4 mg through 18.8% on Wegovy HD 7.2 mg to 20.9% on Zepbound or Mounjaro 15 mg. The Wegovy tablet lands within about a point of the 2.4 mg injection, which is the most meaningful comparison here since they are the same molecule, and the OASIS-4 paper positioned it as comparable to the injectable.
These are all separate trials, so the ordering is indicative rather than exact. The one true head-to-head in this space, SURMOUNT-5, compared the two injections, not a pill against an injection.
And the average is not the whole decision. A pill you take every day beats an injection you avoid, skip, or quit. If needles, refrigeration, or pen shortages are the reason a weekly injectable has not worked for you, the gap between 13.6% and 14.9% is a much smaller price than the gap between taking a medication and not taking one.
What this calculator can and cannot tell you
It is a reference point, not a forecast. The trial endpoints and responder percentages are verified published numbers from the FDA labels, using the conservative intention-to-treat estimands rather than the adherence-based ones quoted in press coverage. Everything between the endpoints is estimated, because neither trial publishes week-by-week numbers, and both pills are new enough that there is far less real-world follow-up behind them than behind the injectables.
Trial participants took the medication alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity, individual results varied widely in both directions, and the trial populations may not match your situation. This page is educational information, not medical advice; the choice between these medications is a conversation for you and your prescriber.
FAQ
What is the best GLP-1 pill for weight loss?
There are only two approved for weight loss, so the field is small. On published averages the Wegovy 25 mg tablet is higher: 13.6% of body weight over 64 weeks in OASIS-4, against 11.1% on Foundayo 17.2 mg over 72 weeks in ATTAIN-1. Those come from separate trials rather than a head-to-head, and the practical difference is the routine: the Wegovy tablet must be taken each morning on an empty stomach with at most 4 oz of water and a 30-minute wait before food, while Foundayo is taken once daily with or without food. Choose the tablet if you want the bigger published number and can keep the morning routine; choose Foundayo if flexible dosing is what will keep you consistent.
How much weight can you lose on GLP-1 pills?
In the pivotal trials, adults without diabetes lost an average of 13.6% of body weight on the Wegovy 25 mg tablet over 64 weeks, and 7.4% to 11.1% on Foundayo over 72 weeks depending on dose, each alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity. Diet and exercise alone averaged about 2%. For a 220 lb starting weight, the top figures work out to roughly 30 lb on the tablet and 24 lb on Foundayo. Individual results varied widely in both directions.
Are GLP-1 pills as effective as the injections?
Close but not equal, on published averages. The pills average 11.1% to 13.6%, while the injections run 14.9% (Wegovy 2.4 mg) to 20.9% (Zepbound and Mounjaro 15 mg). The Wegovy tablet comes within about a point of the Wegovy injection, which is the fairest comparison since they are the same molecule. These are separate trials rather than head-to-head results, and adherence matters more than the gap: a daily pill you actually take beats a weekly injection you avoid.
Is Rybelsus a weight-loss pill?
No. Rybelsus is oral semaglutide at 7 mg and 14 mg, approved for type 2 diabetes, and it has no weight-loss indication and no pivotal weight-loss trial. The Wegovy 25 mg tablet is the weight-loss version of oral semaglutide, at a higher dose and with its own trial (OASIS-4). If you are taking Rybelsus, this calculator will overstate what your dose was studied to do.
Do you take GLP-1 pills with food?
It depends entirely on which pill. Foundayo is taken once daily with or without food, with no water limit or waiting period. The Wegovy 25 mg tablet must be taken in the morning on an empty stomach with no more than 4 oz of water, and you then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking other liquids, or taking other oral medications. Follow the label and your pharmacist over any summary, including this one.
Which GLP-1 pill works fastest?
Their early months differ mostly because of escalation speed. The Wegovy tablet reaches its full 25 mg dose around week 13, while Foundayo steps up more gradually and reaches its top 17.2 mg dose around week 21 at the earliest. By three months the estimated curves sit near 8.8% on the tablet and 5.3% on Foundayo 17.2 mg. Early weeks understate both medications, so judge your own progress against the curve at your week, not against the trial-end headline.
